1% Well Read Challenge.

#1 is hosting a challenge, and i figured i'm out of school, i have time, why am i not participating in these??? the 1% well read challenge deals with books on the 1001 books you must read before you die list. the challenge is:


Read 10 titles from the original list from March 1, 2009 through December 31, 2009.
Read 10 titles from the new list from March 1, 2009 through December 31, 2009.
Read 13 titles from the combined list (of almost 1300 titles) from March 1, 2009 through March 31, 2010.

I dunno which of the above i'm really committing to, but here are some from the list that i plan on reading this year.

The Cider House Rules - John Irving
The Handmaid's Tale - Margaret Atwood
Schindler's Ark - Thomas Teneally
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest - Ken Kesey
Things Fall Apart - Chinua Achebe
Doctor Zhivago - Boris Pasternak
The Lord of the Rings- JRR Tolken
Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day - Winifred Watson
Dracula - Bram Stoker
Little Women - Louisa May Allcott


okay so there are a lot more on the list that i'd like to read but those are a few. i hope to accomplish this challenge.

Yay!!!! It looks like those are all from the original list to me. You should definitely listen to the audio of Dracula that I listened to -- it was great.

Maybe we can read Dr. Zhivago for our club choice in August.

Atonement's great - my favorite Ian McEwan book. Read Little Women in school, as part of our reading list, and actually liked it - that came as a surprise. Finally, I think Schindler's Ark/List is a must-read. In fact, I might end up re-reading it at some point in the near future.
