#1 is hosting a challenge, and i figured i'm out of school, i have time, why am i not participating in these??? the 1% well read challenge deals with books on the 1001 books you must read before you die list. the challenge is:

WELL, A LOT HAS GONE ON SINCE I LAST UPDATED MY BLOG. FIRST OFF, MY REASONING FOR NOT UPDATING MY BLOG WAS THAT MY COMPUTER, AFTER GRADUATION THANK HEAVENS, DECIEDED TO DIE. IT WOULDN'T STAY ON LONGER THAN ABOUT 10 MIN, THEN IT WOULD RANDOMLY SHUT OFF. SO I NEVER COULD UPDATE. THEN WHEN I GOT A NEW COMPUTER I FORGOT MY PASSWORD. SO IT'S BEEN AWHILE TO SAY THE LEAST.

ANYWAYS.... THIS SUMMER I WENT TO DC. I WENT TO VISIT MY FRIEND MARGARET OVER THE FORTH OF JULY. IT WAS A BLAST.

WHEN I GOT BACK I STARTED WORKING FULL TIME AT THE UNK FINANCE OFFICE. I ALSO STILL WORK AT THE BANK ON SATURDAYS FOR SOME EXTRA SPENDING MONEY.

I MOVED TO A DIFFRENT HOUSE IN KEARNEY IN JULY, IF YOU NEED THE NEW ADDRESS EMAIL ME.

I ALSO WAS IN MY FRIEND KRISTINA'S WEDDING AT THE END OF JULY. IT WAS A GOOD TIME.

I CUT ABOUT 5-6 INCHES OFF OF MY HAIR A COUPLE WEEKS AGO.... BUT IT'S STILL ABOUT MIDDLE LENGTH.

I GOT NEW CONTACTS IN JULY, AND FOUND OUT MY EYES WERE ALLERGIC TO THEM. I HAVE NEW ONES NOW THAT ARE BETTER.

I WENT TO A WEDDING IN OSHKOSH, NE THIS WEEKEND WITH MY FRIEND SARA. WE GOT LOST GOING THERE. NOT FUN. OSH KOSH IS PRETTY LAME. I WAS GLAD TO GET BACK.

OTHER THAN THAT I'VE JUST BEEN KEEPING IT REAL AND LIVING THE DREAM.

Tornado 2008

So here are some pictures from my thursday night. The first one, is expo building at the fair grounds, rolled up into itself. The second one is what I walked out to find my car and driveway covered in branches. At first we didn't know where our recycling bin was either, but just today (saturday) we got it back from our neighbors a few houses down. The third picture is a picture down our street where you can see all the branches and debris.
Now, we get to some real damage. The next picture is a picture of the 4plex, that one of my friends looked into moving into last month, kind of glad they changed their mind. The next is a picture of cars piled on top of each other in an apartment complex parking lot. That same apartment complex had it's club house destroyed, which is in the next picture. The gas station picture, is across the street from campus. Campus was pretty bad too, but you can't really tell it from pictures. The last picture is the tree that was uprooted in our backyard. I also saw the 90 cars from the train that was derailed on my way home Friday morning, and it was pretty intense. But, I'm thankful we had our power back by the end of the night, which is a terrific improvement from the ice storm, where we lost power for 5 days. Also, I'm thankful for cellphones that sort of worked and portable dvd players that run off batteries to watch during the storm, that kept me distracted, and also for basements.

I grew up reading the books about a zillion times, so it is about impossible for me to not like the movie, but in that sense it is also about impossible for me to like the movie 100%, because there are differences from the book. I normally don't mind when they leave things out because I know you can't always put in everything, but I really don't like it when they add stuff, and Prince Caspian, did have some things that weren't in the book added. However, it was to a minimal degree, so therefore, it was still pretty good. Plus, Prince Caspian is HOTTTTT so, as long as he's on screen it's a good thing ;). But all that put aside it's still a great movie, especially if you are a lover of the books, like me :) . See it.

I tried watching this movie three times. I actually hardly ever fall asleep during movies I haven't seen, and I've done it twice in one month. Sad. Anyways, I fell asleep the first two times I tried to watch it. The third time I was successful in finishing it. I'm not sure what I think of it. I liked the ending, which not a lot of people did from what I'm told, but I did. Also I really liked Javiar Bardem in it, he was truly really really creepy.

So. I am all set to graduate this May, well given that I pass all of my classes. So if you would like to come here is some more information on the when and where. I will definitely be sending out invitations too, but I just wanted to put it out here early since it is on a Friday.

Atonement

Staring: Keira Knightley and James McAvoy

I love the way this movie is done. It's a great movie that made me feel almost devastated. The acting is greatly done by all the characters. There is one this to remember when watching this movie however, it isn't a feel good romantic movie. It's a heart wrencher. I think these types of movies are amazing because life doesn't always end happily and neither should movies.

Dane Cook is funny as usual, Jessica Alba is believable. The store line is good, but there are a lot of sex scenes. My roommate and I watched this together and we both kind of felt as if we had watched a porn together by the time it was done. However it was good for a few laughs and there are penguins in it and I'm a sucker for penguins.

Superbad

This movie is the typical stupid, but hilarious movie full of random funny stuff. It's pretty good for a good laugh. If your looking for substance, not so much.

Staring: Audrey Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart

This is a great classic romantic feel good movie. The acting is great. The characters and storyline are great. It's the classic love story of two in love from different societal classes. Plus it is in black and white and that always makes movies better :).

Funny Face

My first thoughts were is that it is very similar to the more modern movie of The Devil Wears Prada, but then again it's not. You'll just have to watch it to see what I mean.

3:10 to Yuma

I do not like cowboy movies. I am not a country fan. However, this movie is awesome. The acting is really really good, by both Russell Crowe and Christian Bale. The story line is very capturing as well. I am normally pretty good about predicting movie's endings and I did predict part of this one, but then was blown away by the other part of this ending. I'd recommend seeing this movie, even if you have reservations about it being a cowboy movie, it's really pretty good. :) I'd even buy it. Well, I'll buy it after I move out, my roommate has it now.

It started with a chair. This is one of the best movies I have seen in a long time, and I typically watch a lot of movies. It is hilarious. The first 5 minutes I laughed harder than I think I have in any other movie. The acting is amazing. Ellen Page is incredible. She is up for a golden globe for best actress in a musical or comedy and I am rooting for her to get it tonight. I've actually seen this movie twice in the theater. It's worth it for sure too. :) I will also own it when it comes out. The music in it is also really fitting. Micheal Cera also does a great job in this.

This movie has very good actors, and I think it could be a good movie, but sadly, I didn't like it as much as I thought I would. This movie deals a lot with grief, and I'm not sure in a healthy way. But, some people I saw it with loved it. Be sure to bring tissues if you wish to see it. Some of the girls I saw it with cried through the whole movie.

Dan In Real Life

Steve Carell does a great job in this movie, and it's not his normal comedy either, it has a great story line and I loved watching this movie as well. It is also one I would like to own. It is a good family movie, in the sense that you could sit down and watch it with your family and it shows how one particular family operates. It touches you, or at least it did me. :)

August Rush

This movie is great to watch simply because of all the music in it. Keri Russel and Freddie Highmore do great jobs acting. Robin Williams also does a great job in acting in it because it makes me really not like his character at all.

The only thing I wish this movie would have had was more a closure with the ending. It seemed to suffer from what most movies now days suffer from in that oh, we've hit how long it should be let's just wrap it up here. But still overall a good movie.

I really liked this movie, however the people I saw it with didn't. I liked it because it isn't the typical plot line for a story. My friends say it has a bad ending, I say it has a good ending, because sometimes in life there aren't clear endings to things and not everything works out in such a clique way. Meg Ryan does a great job acting in it. The scenery is also amazingly beautiful. You buy into the all the characters acting.

Reign over Me

Another movie that I liked but the people I watched it with didn't. I think people want it to have a clean cut happy ending, but the story line doesn't really allow for that. Adam Sandler's character lost his wife and daughters in 9-11 and it shows his depression and how not everyone understands his grief process.

Some friends and I wanted to see this movie because of all the Oscar hype behind it. I really just gotta say......there's really no reason for the hype at all. It's classified as a "dark comedy" and it really should be classified as "screwed up." I can see why certain actors and actresses got nominated for awards because this movie has very hard roles to play. However, it also really made us feel dirty. It's all about affairs and an adult who's really into kids... and not in a pg sort of way. The one plus after watching this movie is though... it will make all movies seem better in life.

Notes on a Scandal

This movie will also make you feel kind of dirty, as it's topics are just about as uncomfortable as little children's : lesbians, obsession, and a teacher / child affair. However, I feel that it is done much better than the filth discussed above and had some truly hilarious parts. "Someone has died!!!!!" Unfortunately, I'm not sure they were meant to be funny. This must be said though, Judy Dench was absolutely amazing in this movie.

So, my sisters review books a lot. Now, I'm not knocking reading. I really enjoy reading. However, during school I cannot read because I am sick of reading management books. And during the summer I cannot read all the time because I do not want to feel like I am in school. Don't get me wrong when the new Harry Potter book came out I read it in 3 days. However, I am a HUGE fan of movies. I don't know if there is a much better activity than going to see a movie, renting a movie, or watching one of your old favorites. So below is some of the recent movies I've seen and a little bit about them. It may sound like I like them all, but believe me when I detest a movie. I will let people know.. hence watch for a review later about a movie called Little Children which was horrible!!!!!

Harry Potter!!!!

Oh how I love Harry Potter. This month has been too much for me with the movie and the book. Watched the movie and already finished the book. Cried in both. The movie is amazing. Well, not as good as the book, but how can it be? The movie did leave out a lot of stuff that is in the book. However, if the movie was 5 hours long I still don't think it could have gotten everything in from the book. It is very enjoyable the way it is though. I especially enjoyed scenes that flash back to previous movies. It's remarkable to have seen these children grow up on screen in front of you. You should probably see this movie. And if you aren't into Harry Potter, you probably should be.

So yes. Ahh yes. I really wanted to see this movie! One, because I am getting married and thought it would be funny in light of actually being in the process of going to premarital counseling myself. It was good, but not as good as I expected. I was disappointed but would still see it again. In case you haven't noticed though, I watch movies all the time. It is actually quite hard sometimes to rent movies because I've seen a lot of them already. But, if you want to see this you probably should. If you don't you probably shouldn't.

Knocked Up

Knocked Up, was not my first choice to see when I went to see this movie. Not because I didn't want to see it but because I really wanted to see License to Wed more. Dustin and I actually bought tickets to see it but the air conditioner was broken in that theater and I cannot stand being hot. I know I am a wimp and I am 100% okay with it. So anyways we exchanged tickets and saw Knocked Up instead. It was hilarious, but I have to warn you a little crude. I'm really okay with that but some people aren't. So if you watch it be prepared. However I did about die laughing. No joke. hahaha.

Ratatouille

Ratatouille is suppose to be one of Disney's best animated films I read in the paper awhile back. Well, it's alright in my opinion but certainly not one of the best. It's a cute movie. However, there are some things in it that are kind of hard to watch. For example, a heard of rats cooking.... Is this really something I want to think about?? I'm not sure. However, Disney does make a cute rat and a good story line to go along with this movie.

Hairspray

Hairspray.....I would have to agree with one of my good friends, that musicals don't exactly top my list of favorite things. However, the movie hairspray was a lot better than I anticipated. I really thought it looked stupid and really only agreed to go to it because I had nothing better to do. However, I think I might be glad I did. It had more of a plot than I thought and actually touched some good issues. I think I might actually watch it again given the opportunity. It had some really funny parts including John Travolta as a woman. Can't see that everyday.

Colo Springs

I went and visited Dustin! It's about a 6 1/2 hour drive from Kearney. Kind of lonely when you are driving all by yourself. Next time I will probably get a book on CD to help the time pass. Dustin's apartment is very nice. The picture is his view off his balcony. He has a nice apartment with an attached garage. Turns out, the attached garage is a good idea, considering Dustin got his car broke into on Monday morning. Welcome to the city. My theory is that a door must have been left unlocked. My car was parked right next to his and had my binder of CDs laying out on the passenger seat and my car was not touched. Dustin got down to his car and everything from his glove box was on his seats. All that was taken was his ipod charger and adapter, which is still about $40 worth of stuff but at least nothing was damaged. So to go for the car where things were all hidden away and pass on the car that had CDs laying out makes me think his car had to be unlocked. Other than that incident it was a very good weekend. I did not have to leave until Monday morning and I got there Friday night. Saturday we met with who I am pretty sure is going to be our wedding photographer. He is the same photographer that Carrie is having. It's not official yet but we are leaning that way. We met up with Nicole and had lunch with her as well. Sunday we went to Garden of the Gods on Dustin's motorcycle and then rode to Manitou Springs. All in all it was a great weekend. It was sad to leave but I hope that this year passes quickly.

I have not posted in quite a long while. DB moved to Colorado Springs this weekend, and I spent most of my spare time with him before he moved. I'm glad for his opportunity but I'm missing him terribly already. On the plus side I am going to see him this weekend. I am already counting down the days :) On other news my roommates and I discovered that we have 6 baby owls in one of our trees in the backyard. They are adorable and surprisingly quiet. It has been a fun to watch them. I will post more pictures of them as I get them. As for now, I'm going to call it a night.

Basically, I kind of knew it was coming. He had slipped up on saying some things like instead of saying "when i buy your ring" he said "when i bought your ring." So the cat was kind of out of the bag already, but it was still perfect. Thursday (May 10th) we went out to eat at Red Lobster. We had a gift card left over from Christmas and just wanted to celebrate his accomplishments of the past week. So, after words we went out for a walk by the arch, and watched the sunset over the lake out there. So, I thought it might happen that night, but I thought if it did that was the time. Then D said okay let's go home and watch a movie. Ahhhh not tonight.. I thought, So he puts in this movie and the preview of "The Holiday" came on and immediately grabbed my attention because right now, that's my favorite movie. About half way into the movie the preview went to the side of the screen and then D was on the other side and said all these wonderful things and the rest is history! He even called mom earlier in the day to ask permission. We have no definite plans as of yet but we are thinking next June after I graduate. We would like to do it the seventh so the date would be 6-7-08, that and his sister got married on June 17 and his parents on June 27... so we'd like to keep up the trend. More to come as more becomes finalized!!!!!!

What's Been Happening...

I haven't posted in almost a month, so here has been what's going on: school, work, and preparing for DB's graduation. So finally, school is over. Finals week was awful combined with work, but now i only have to work during the summer. It will be my first summer since starting college that i won't have to take summer classes :) . Now I'm just impatiently waiting on getting my grades back. Most importantly, DB graduated!!!! He graduated Cum Lade with a major in Telecommunications Management and a minor in Computer Science and Information Systems. He also received the Outstanding Graduate Award for his major. He is so smart :) . It's very exciting. He also accepted a job at Lockheed Martin in Colorado Springs. Which is very exciting but also very sad that we will be 6 hours or so away from each other for a year :'( . I'm not looking forward to that so much but I am happy for him and the wonderful opportunity that is awaiting him there. We will probably go down next week and start looking at apartments for him.

School has been pretty crazy lately. You can probably tell because I'd rather be doing anything than homework/studying, so naturally I'm updating this. I have 2 presentations, a paper, and a test this week. YIKES!!!!!! Oh yes and work's lovely as usual. But I registered for my classes this fall today, and that's always exciting. Fall '07 I will be taking: Finance, Ethics, International Management, Compensation Management, and Glassblowing. Yes! Glassblowing! I've got to have a creative outlet somewhere, and I needed 2 more credit hours outside of business to graduate, so why not?? :)

Viva Las Vegas

For spring break this year a couple of friends and I decided to go to Las Vegas!!!!!! We were there Wednesday through Saturday and stayed at the Stratosphere Hotel and Casino. It was an amazing time. I won $5 at blackjack. I was up to $10 at one point and then I started losing and cashed out at $5. I also played the penny slots for awhile but did not earn any money. It was amazing to see, and I think I would go back someday, because we didn't have time to see the Hoover Dam or the Grand Canyon and I'd like to see both of those someday. I will have pictures posted as soon as I download them from my camera. Right now, I'm going to unpack and get ready for school and work tomorrow. Will I be able to make it through a normal day after a week of no school and a break from work? I guess we'll find out tomorrow.

So I have neglected this site for awhile now, and there is not much new in my life. D is always gone on job interviews, and I've learned I don't like dropping people off at the airport and watching them walk away :(. So far he has been to Madison, and Minneapolis. He is currently in Colorado Springs and will travel to Kansas City the beginning part of next week, the WE ARE OFF TO VEGAS!!!!! It will be a nice to get away for awhile. This week I had three hard tests. Two were today back to back, the other one is tomorrow. I guess you can tell I'm burnt out on studying since I'm on here instead of studying the wonderful world of economics in money and banking. Oh well i suppose i shouldn't put it off anymore...

I received a promotion at work this week. I am no longer a Customer Service Representative (glorified teller.) I am now the Senior Teller. Which above all will look good on my resume. I enjoy working at Bank of the West most of the time, but now and again we do get those crazy customers that always have a way of brighting or ruining your day. I have learned a lot from working there though, such as: I am sure I do not want to work in customer service for the rest of my life. But it is a good place to work while in college. However, I think I'm much more of a small town person, and this becomes very clear when working for a bank based out of California(the govenator's country.) :P
